River Valley’s success is due in large part to our roster of experienced and hardworking agents. Here is an introduction to Valerie Sands.
What made you become a Realtor?
Married to a man who liked redoing old houses, I became interested in the building process and the elements that make up a house. Opening up walls, discovering issues and resolving them, redirecting plumbing and electric in order to enlarge rooms and take down walls, designing patios, kitchens, bathrooms and landscaping became fascinating and instructive. I felt an affinity with buildings and decided real estate was a good choice for me after working as a marketing professional in the corporate world. I worked for several years for a NJ builder where I learned about new construction from the foundation to the roof, municipal and state codes and the process involved in marketing these properties. This background has served me well, as I am able to pass on my knowledge to my buyers and sellers.
What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
Knowledge of markets and economic trends has proven invaluable to me in helping clients through the buying/selling process. Continuing to add to my knowledge base though seminars, webinars and online courses has been an important part of my career, enhancing my effectiveness with my clients. Helping people navigate through the process of buying or selling, possibly their biggest investment, provides a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.
What do you like most about living in this area?
I live in a converted barn in East Amwell and am reminded daily of how fortunate I am to live in such a beautiful and peaceful community. We are surrounded by rolling hills and magnificent views where farms and horse properties exist on large parcels. East Amwell , a forerunner in land preservation, has preserved many farms and open space which has kept our countryside beautiful.
