Tell us about starting your company?
I began Rose Knows Where It Goes in 2010, and have since become an award winning and nationally seen, full service home organizing & staging company. I have many clients locally, but also service up and down the east coast from NY to FL. I have always been passionate about time management, planning, decluttering & organizing. I turned my love of organizing into Rose Knows Where It Goes, sharing my wealth of knowledge by coaching clients through the decluttering process & getting to the root of the clutter once and for all. My teaching degree certainly comes into play, because as soon as I hone in on my clients leaning style I am able to create effortless sustainable solutions to keep them organized. Being an entrepreneurial business owner also gave me a more manageable schedule to be present as a Wife/Mom. Prioritizing what matters the most is key in time management, so I always go back to my Who and Why when making commitments.
What’s the most common issue for preparing a home for sale?
In general, people find they have too much “stuff”. I coach clients through the process of letting go of what no longer serves them. Being honest with yourself in asking: does this fit in your next home and new chapter? Is it worth the task to pack and unpack? What I find rewarding is helping the client look at the home they are selling as if it is no longer theirs. This will help the client stage to the architectural integrity and design of the home instead of their own style. In turn, this helps the seller emotionally detach themselves from the home and unwanted stuff. The potential buyer will also feel this when they enter the home within the first two minutes. This is HUGE. Many people struggle with depersonalization, taking down years of photos and design style that they love but may not appeal to the current buyer pool. Getting the house ready for showings seems to overwhelm everyone. So, I work on changing daily habits and develop strategies for that, which will also serve you in your next home.
What’s are your challenges in your job? What’s most rewarding?
The most complex part of what I do is the emotional piece. It is sometimes hard work to have clients take ownership to let go of their internal and external stuff. Sometimes I become an accountability coach, since some clients don’t necessarily need advice. Instead, they just need a hand to hold, a ear to listen and a heart to understand them. I truly believe I was born to help and heal. It is beyond rewarding to help clients create a positive internal dialog, an external environment they love and helping them see their best authentic self.
